Steven “Steve” Clark Garrett was born on June 10, 1967, in Texas, where he was raised and spent his early years. From a young age, Steve had a curious mind and a creative spirit. He enjoyed video games, found comfort in the companionship of his cats, and developed a love for cooking that would ultimately shape his life’s work.
After graduating high school, Steve followed his passion into the culinary arts, enrolling in a culinary program in Dallas, Texas. Upon graduating, he built a respected career as a chef, working in several major hotels throughout Texas. Known for his skill, dedication, and quiet pride in his craft, Steve worked as both a pastry chef and a sous chef, always striving to perfect what he created for others.
Steve’s journey eventually led him to Red River, New Mexico, where he was offered the opportunity to help open a restaurant and step into the role of executive chef. Red River became a place he truly loved. He cherished the cold weather, the breathtaking mountain scenery, and the close-knit community. It was a place where he felt at home.
Above all else, Steve had a deeply giving heart. He loved his cats fiercely and never turned away from a stray in need, always making sure they were fed and cared for. His compassion extended quietly but sincerely to those around him, often shown through small, thoughtful acts rather than words.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Basil G. Garrett and Hedwig Schober Garrett. He is survived by his loving sister, Shauna C. Garrett-Ward, and her husband, Bill, along with many cousins who loved him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends when arrangements are finalized.
Steve will be remembered for his kindness, his talent in the kitchen, his love of animals, and the gentle, caring heart that defined who he was. We find comfort in knowing that he is now fully healed, resting in peace, and safely held in God’s eternal embrace. “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
