Susan Teresa Jameson

Susie Papineau Jameson, age 71, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at the Hospice of North Idaho Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Susie was born on July 7, 1954, in Moscow, Idaho, to Don and Bettyann Papineau. Growing up in Moscow, she was known for her adventurous spirit and never shying away from fun with her siblings and friends. Family stories of her youthful antics are legendary, including one of her favorites—stuffing records down her pants to soften the blow of an impending swat.

Susie graduated from Moscow High School in 1972. She went on to attend the University of Idaho, where she joined the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1977 and later completed her Master of Education in 1983.

In 1979, Susie met the love of her life, Dee Jameson. Dee was introduced to Susie at Harding Elementary while meeting with a mutual friend—and he made sure not to leave that day without meeting her. The two were married in 1980 at St. Thomas Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, beginning a 45-year partnership filled with laughter, adventure and devotion.

Susie dedicated 34 years to the Coeur d’Alene School District. She taught fifth grade for many years at Harding Elementary and Ramsey Elementary before spending two years teaching at the Kootenai County juvenile detention center—a role she loved. She concluded her career teaching sixth-grade social studies and seventh-grade math at Canfield Middle School, where she spent over 20 years making a lasting impact on her students.

Community involvement and friendship were central themes of Susie’s life. She was an active member of the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce Commodores serving in many roles, including chairing the annual Aw$um Auction and Annual Banquet. Decorating floats, riding in parades and raising money alongside her cherished Chamber Commodore friends brought her great joy.

To say Susie was a lifelong Vandal fan is an understatement. She bled silver and gold and spent countless weekends cheering on the University of Idaho football team. Giving back to her alma mater was a priority—she was a devoted member of the Vandal Scholarship Fund beginning in the early 2000s and supported the Vandal Boosters for decades. She proudly ensured that

both of her children were lifelong Vandals as well. Susie embraced adventure with enthusiasm. She loved bowling with her friends on the Happy Beavers 3C’s bowling team and was a founding member of the North Idaho Stimulators, a group that began as five women traveling to rivers for fly fishing adventures throughout the western states. Travel with friends and family was a priority, especially vacations that included a beach or pool, a good book and several of her favorite magazines. She also treasured time spent fly fishing for world-famous brown trout at her beloved cabin on the Missouri River in Craig, Montana.

Gardening was Susie’s true passion. She devoted months each year to planning, planting and tending to her flower gardens, mastering every trick to produce the most vibrant and perfectly coordinated flower beds in the neighborhood. Her yard was always the envy of all who passed by—though nothing tested her patience, quite like the sight of deer in it.

If gardening was her passion, shopping was her obsession—and perhaps her second career. No coupon was ever allowed to expire, and she frequently took seasonal retail jobs solely for the discounts, earning the affectionate nickname “Seasonal Susie.” It is unclear as to whether these seasonal jobs actually produced any sort of paycheck.

Susie took great pride in her home and loved decorating for every holiday, with Christmas being her favorite. Once summer and football season ended, days were spent transforming the exterior of her home into a winter wonderland. Her efforts were recognized when she won the citywide “Reader’s Choice Award” from The Coeur d’Alene Press. Despite her many talents, she would be the first to admit she was no domestic expert—often joking that she could burn cereal if given the chance.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Bettyann Papineau. She is survived by her devoted husband, Dee Jameson; her children, John (Regan) Jameson and Jackie Jameson; and Lucky, the family dog. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Clara (13), Cailyn (11) and Patrick (7); and her siblings, Renee (Brian) Bookey, Greg (Beth) Papineau, and John (Pat) Papineau. Nothing was more important to Susie than her family.
