Terry Simoneau Cook, a beloved friend and cherished community member, passed away peacefully at her home on August 13, 2026. Born on June 21, 1934, in Claremont, New Hampshire, Terry lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a deep sense of service to those around her.
Terry was daughter of Prosper and Odina Simoneau. Terry was raised by her Grandparents Joseph and Emelina Chevalier who instilled in her the values of hard work and compassion. She graduated from high school in Windsor, Vermont, in 1952 and promptly answered the call to serve her country. Joining the Air Force that same year, Terry trained as a Communications Center Specialist. She completed basic training in San Antonio, Texas, pursued specialized training at F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming, and completed her honorable service at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, being honorably discharged in 1955 and received the National Defense Service Medal.
In May of 1956, Terry married Bernard Cook. Although their paths eventually diverged, the years they spent together were filled with shared dreams and fond memories. Terry's resilience shone through in the years following her divorce as she single-handedly maintained her property, embodying strength and positivity in all she undertook.
Terry enjoyed a fulfilling career with JC Penney for over 30 years. Her journey began at the downtown Coeur d'Alene location, and she eventually moved to the Silver Lake Mall in 1989. Her role in the Receiving Department was not just a job but a passion, and she cherished the camaraderie with her colleagues.
A devoted member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Terry found joy in volunteering at the church office. Her faith and commitment to her community were further reflected in her participation with the Rambling Rovers, where she delighted in travel adventures with cherished friends.
Terry's life was enriched by her loyal circle of friends, including Mary Jane Wentworth who was like a sister to her, David Dodge, and Barbara Baltzell, who now hold her memory dear. Her quick wit and bright sense of humor brought light to every room she entered. Terry's love for her kitties was well-known, and she welcomed many into her home over the years, providing them with warmth and care.
In her final years, Terry resided at Brookdale Assisted Living, where she was enveloped in the kindness of caregivers and the companionship of fellow residents. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents who provided love and support during her time there.
Terry is predeceased by her parents, grandparents, and brother, but leaves behind a legacy of kindness and resilience that will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. In honor of her life, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Though Terry may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the stories shared by those who loved her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, hard work, and love.
A service for Terry will be held at a later date in her hometown of Brownsville, Vermont.
