Thomas Marvin Inman

Thomas Marvin Inman lived his life with strength, principle, service, and an unwavering devotion to his family.

Tom passed away on August 29, 2026, near his home in Hauser Lake, Idaho, just days before his 91st birthday.

Born in Red Oak, Iowa, to Meritt and Kathryn Inman, Tom attended Colorado State University before beginning a distinguished 28-year career in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His service took him and his family around the world and fostered a lifelong love of travel, different cultures, and adventure.

But Tom’s greatest source of pride was his family.

He and his wife, Janice, shared 66 years of marriage. Jan was the love of his life and remained at the center of his world. Together they raised five children: Kathleen Young (Steven), Mike Inman (Lori), Karen Stringer (Gary), Thomas Inman (Luz), and Gregory Inman (Cynthia). He was a proud grandfather to Conner, Daniel, Mathew, Kevin, Kimberly, and Angelica. Great grandfather to Sophie and Oliver.

Tom was strong, steady, reliable, patriotic, and principled. He was a provider, mentor, leader, and role model who cared deeply about the character and security of his family. His children learned from him the importance of family, honesty, humility, leadership, and standing by your principles.

He also had genuine care for people. Tom knew how to welcome others and make them feel comfortable—a quality his children saw throughout his life and carry forward today.

Tom loved fishing, gardening, woodworking, collecting knives, traveling, following world events, and being prepared for just about any emergency. He cheered for the Denver Broncos and Colorado Avalanche, proudly wore his Tommy Bahama shirts, and was always adventurous when it came to food. His grandchildren will especially remember Buck knives, rounding up swine, and fishing with Grandpa.

His Catholic faith was an important part of his life, and he was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

For Tom’s family, his passing means losing something difficult to describe: the comfort of knowing his strength was always there if they needed it.

That strength now lives on in the family he loved so deeply—in five children who learned how to lead by watching him, in his grandchildren, and in the values, he spent a lifetime demonstrating.

Tom was a strong, principled leader. He served his country with distinction, loved Jan deeply, was enormously proud of his children, and made the people he loved feel more secure simply because they knew he was there.

That is a father’s legacy.

A funeral and celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 9:30 am, Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 8026 W 2nd St, Rathdrum, ID.

Tom will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington, 21702 W Espanola Rd, Medical Lake, WA.
