Vern D. Fitzgerald passed away November 12, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on March 12, 1953, in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, Vern was dedicated to his family and career. A proud union carpenter, he served multiple terms as president of Local 1691 and later shared his expertise as an instructor in the union apprenticeship program in Spokane, Washington.
Vern's greatest measure of success was the loving home he crafted with his wife, Patricia R. Brincken Fitzgerald. Together, they nurtured a family rooted in love and support, and Vern was especially proud to raise two successful children, Tristan J. Fitzgerald and Diana K. Fitzgerald. He cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren—Penelope, Josephine, Eliose, Clementine, Alexandra, Meredith, and Helena—who brought him immense happiness.
An avid learner, Vern had an extensive knowledge of history and random facts, which he shared generously with others. His passion for trains, trivia, and the intricate workings of all things made him a wellspring of interesting facts and stories that captivated those around him. Friends and family will cherish their fond memories of sharing these moments with him, recalling how he enjoyed teaching and engaging in discussions that sparked their interest.
Vern's academic journey began at Coeur d' Alene High School, from which he graduated in 1971. He further pursued an associate degree in law enforcement with a minor in history, showcasing his lifelong commitment to learning.
Vern is preceded in death by his loving parents, Everal T. Fitzgerald and Grace B. Gist Fitzgerald. Throughout his life and even in his passing, the fondest memories of Vern resonate with the knowledge that he was always present. His unwavering love, support, and wisdom will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
A memorial gathering to honor Vern’s life will be held at English Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, on December 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
