Weldon White

Weldon Ray White was born 6/18/42 in Phoenix, Arizona to Frank and Dorothy White. He grew up on a dairy farm in Elk Grove, California which shaped many of the incredible values that he sustained for the remainder of his life. The family subsequently moved to Malin, Oregon where he was called to serve in the Vietnam war from 1967 to 1969, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.

Upon his return he faced numerous challenges which deepened his resilience and faith. He had a passion for helping others and became a police officer which was the beginning of a long and honorable career.

During this time he was briefly married and had two children, Kathy and David.

Weldon continued to overcome adversity and married Susan White in 1973. They enjoyed 52 years of happiness and marvelous adventures. They moved to Sitka, Alaska where he was an officer with the Sitka Police Department in various capacities for 25 years. Policing was a critical part of his life but so were numerous outdoor activities including boating, ocean fishing, crabbing and scuba diving. He also discovered his artistic side through wood carving which was heavily influenced by the Tlinget Tribe in Southeast Alaska. His carvings are truly a work of art.

Weldon retired from policing in 1997 when he and Susan moved to Pinetop, Arizona where they continued and expanded their love of outdoor activities to include mountain biking and fly fishing.

With his passion for helping other people still intact, he and Susan became members of the Navajo County Search and Rescue unit. They helped to initiate the County’s first canine rescue team with their Doberman, Dylan.

In 2004 they moved to Coeur d‘Alene, Idaho and remained active and involved in numerous activities. He also expanded his carving interests to include custom walking sticks which are a labor of love and artistic talent. Weldon continued to help people by doing volunteer counseling with jail inmates. He was a member of two Mens’ Bible Study groups and stayed active in his community where he impacted many individuals through his love and kindness.

Weldon died unexpectedly from a stroke on 7/19/25. Weldon was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Dorothy and his brother Wayne. He is survived by his wife Susan, two children Kathy and David and his sister Elaine. Weldon was a remarkable person who was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. He truly was one of the “ good guys”. A celebration of life will be held at the family home Sunday 7/27/25 from 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers it is requested donations be made to NEWBY-GINNINGS in Post Falls, a veterans support group.
